Poor Naval Shipyard Condition

 

U.S. Naval Shipyards are well-documented by GAO as being in poor condition as shown in the video below

 
 
 

GAO Report 17-548 documented the following:

  • Rags are used to capture leaking fluids from outdated, leaky hydraulic presses

  • Rushed emergency repairs have been required to prevent drydock flooding

  • About a third of planned ship maintenance over the next 20 years cannot be accomplished

 

This GAO report led directly to creating the SIOP program, but many consider the 20-year SIOP schedule to be strategically far too long
