Bartlett Maritime selects HDR to design facilities, help grow submarine industrial base.

Cleveland, OH November 1, 2023

Bartlett Maritime Corporation and HDR have agreed to team in the effort to build capacity and capability in the nation’s submarine industrial base, the companies announced today.

“HDR is a renowned engineering and design firm with a proven track record of success in the naval shipyard industrial enterprise,” said Edward L. Bartlett, Jr., Bartlett Maritime Corporation’s founder and chief executive officer. “Bartlett Maritime’s plan to build and operate facilities to repair submarine components will greatly benefit from the experience and expertise HDR will bring as our exclusive supplier of facility design services.”

HDR is a 100% employee-owned company that specializes in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services, with more than 200 global office locations.

“We are proud of our work with the Department of the Navy on the many projects that help improve our Navy and Marine Corps’ industrial facilities,” said Doug McAneny, federal business group president of HDR. “We look forward to collaborating with Bartlett Maritime on fulfilling an urgent need for growth in the submarine industrial base.”

Under this teaming agreement, HDR will provide facility design services for Bartlett Maritime’s proposed development and construction of submarine component repair facilities. With a shared dedication to quality, innovation and the highest standards of performance, this collaboration is poised to significantly enhance the infrastructure that supports America’s Navy and the submarine community.

About Bartlett Maritime Corporation
America’s submarine industrial base consistently delivered a new submarine into service every 44 days in the 1960’s. As recently as the 1980’s, it delivered five new submarines into service each year while maintaining more than 100 submarines. Today, just as the Navy is being called on to satisfy strategically essential AUKUS obligations, the submarine industrial base is in the midst of a serious capacity and capability crisis. In response, Bartlett Maritime Corporation is preparing to execute an immediately actionable, cost-effective public-private-partnership proposal to add required capacity and capability to the submarine industrial base.
